Preparation

STEPS TO TAKE BEFORE COMING IN FOR A TATTOO:

1. GET A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP.

2. STAY HYDRATED.

3. SHAVE AND MOISTURIZE THE AREA - IF YOU START MOISTURIZING A FEW DAYS PRIOR TO THE APPOINTMENT, THE PROCESS WILL GO EVEN SMOOTHER FOR YOUR ARTIST.

4. EAT BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT - YOU WILL BE PUTTING YOUR BODY THROUGH EXTENDED STRESS, AND IT NEEDS THE ENERGY TO COMBAT THE TRAUMA TO THE SKIN AND YOUR BASIC BODILY FUNCTIONS. EAT WELL!

5. WEAR PROPER CLOTHING FOR THE PLACEMENT OF YOUR PIECE, AND FOR YOUR OWN COMFORT.

6. BRING A DISTRACTION WITH YOU - A BOOK, PODCAST, MUSIC, ETC.

Black Bog Pricing

Black Bog ranges in hourly pricing from $120 to $160, with a shop minimum of $100 to $130. Your rate will depend on your artist! All of our artists offer flat rate designs and flat rate flash (pre-drawn designs up for grabs) alongside our custom work.

Set-Up Fees; A $25 set up fee is implemented per appointment. This fee will guarantee your free touch up, Aftercare Package, and sustain our eco-tattooing pledge with our continued use of biodegradable PPE.

Eric- $140 hour/ $120 minimum

Meghan - $120 hour/ $100 minimum

Metsä Pricing

Metsä's prices range from $100 to $160, with a shop minimum of $100 to $130. Your rate will depend on your artist! All of our artists offer flat rate designs and flat rate flash (pre-drawn designs up for grabs) alongside our custom work.

Melissa- $160 hour/$130 minimum

Eric - $150 hour/$120 minimum

Kaisa- $140 hour/$120 minimum

Tessa- $120 hour/$100 minimum

Amaris - $120 hour/$100 minimum

Deposits

Deposits are mandatory, and depend on the size of your piece. Deposit amounts are to the discretion of your artist. All deposits are non-refundable and come off the price of your piece in the end. If your piece takes multiple sessions, your deposit will come off your last appointment with us.

Last Minute Design Changes

With our artists, you have a 3 day window prior to your appointment to switch up your design if you are not in love with your original idea. If you fail to notify your artist within that time frame, your appointment will be rescheduled.

Cancellations

For rescheduling or cancellations, we require a minimum of 5 days notice prior to your appointment. If you are canceling your appointment and your artist has already started the design process for your piece, your deposit will not be refunded. Failure to contact your artist before the 5 day window will result in a forfeit of your deposit. Thank you for your understanding.

Aftercare

Adhesive Bandage; Unwrap the tattoo 5 to 7 days after the appointment. With the adhesive bandage, pull downward from the top corners while rinsing the piece under warm running water. Wash with a plain bar of soap. (Something organic or vegan works best; Nature's Aid also carries a line of amazing soaps!) Use your hands to wash the tattoo rather than a cloth or sponge since it may carry bacteria. Rinse your tattoo, and either air dry, or pat it dry with a paper towel.

(Tip to remove the bandage; Under running water, pull the bandage down a couple of inches, and melt some coconut oil behind it as you pull. Do this a few times to reduce irritation in the removal process.) If excess adhesive is left behind, you can also use coconut oil to remove it! Apply the oil to the areas with excess residue, very lightly and in a circular motion, rub the area. The adhesive should start to clump, and you should then be able to carefully remove those small pieces.

(Allergy Alert! We have been seeing an increasing number of allergic reactions to the acrylic, an adhering compound, in the 'second skin' bandage. If you start to notice a red rash or small bumps developing around the edges of your adhesive bandage, please remove it immediately. Do the best you can to remove any excess residue and wash the area. Apply Nature's Aid to the tattoo, and contact your artist to notify them of the issue.)

Absorbent Pad/Gauze; Unwrap the tattoo 2 to 3 days after the appointment. Rinse off the piece with warm running water, and wash with a plain bar of soap. (Something organic or vegan works best; Nature's Aid also carries a line of amazing soaps!) Use your hands to wash the tattoo, rather than a cloth or sponge since it may carry bacteria. Rinse your tattoo, and either air dry, or pat it dry with a paper towel. After the wash, apply a thin layer of Nature's Aid, and once dry, re-wrap the piece with a light layer of breathable gauze to offer the healing skin another layer of protection. Leave this layer on until your next shower.

When it starts to heal, it's going to crack, peel, feel tight, and itchy. This is normal! Never pick or scratch anything on the tattoo (if it's that itchy, just slap it if you have too), when everything flakes off, what's left behind is your tattoo. If there are any breaks or discoloration after healing, you have a year to come back in for a free touch up; anything after that will be a $50 flat charge.

Things to Avoid

Don't submerge your healing tattoo within water for too long. So avoid taking baths/ hot tubs, swimming, even doing dishes in deep basins.

Fresh tattoos are very sensitive to the sun as well, so within the first few days of healing, cover up as best you can. If you are out in the sun after unwrapping your piece, please use a lighter sunscreen (nothing too thick or greasy so your skin can continue to breathe), or use even a moisturizer containing SPF.

If you have pets that share your bed with you, their dander/ fur may cause infection/ irritation. It may be red, and a little more itchy. If so, you need to either wrap your piece for the first couple of nights (the bandage given appointment day would cover this for you), or change your sheets frequently.

If they jump onto a fresh piece, just give it a rinse.

Most tattoos take between 3 to 4 weeks to heal (depending on size and placement of course), but everyone heals at different speeds. Any questions or concerns about your tattoo, you can always send Melissa an email at wrigmeli@gmail.com.

Coconut Oil; It drys quickly, you don't need a lot, it's an organic and natural oil, and has multitudes of uses. Remember if using coconut oil, it MUST be a brand new jar to avoid cross contamination, in your technically, open wound. You can always ask if a certain product that you may already own would work or not. So after you wash your tattoo, apply a thin layer of oil/lotion and you're good to go. But always be aware of where you are placing your piece if out and about!

Our Touch Up Policy

At Black Bog, you have one free touch up within the year! We understand accidents happen while healing, and we want your tattoo to look it's best. If it's been over a year, as stated above, it is just a $50 flat charge. However, if your piece is in need of a touch up due to negligence in the healing process, you will be charged by your artist's hourly rate to fix the piece. Some examples being;

Submerging in water too early

Picking/scratching

over moisturizing

infection through home contamination

early/inappropriate removal of adhesive bandage

use of not recommended aftercare

irritation due to heavy clothing on the area

We provide an Aftercare sheet, bottle of Nature's Aid Skin Gel for healing, and you can contact your artist anytime with any questions or concerns throughout the tattoo process.
